Montreal arenas upgrading program

The City of Montreal has a 40-indoors skating rinks, in 34 arenas and sports complexes. In compliance with the city of Montreal’s protocol, the Canadian law for the environment protection and the Quebec’s law for air and environment quality, the City must replace all refrigeration systems using Freon (HCFC-22), before 2020.

The project includes:

  • Outremont Arena, 2013 to 2015 ($8.8 M) – 8,340 sq. m.;
  • Marcelin-Wilson Arena, 2013 to 2015 ($7.5 M) – 3,625 sq. m.;
  • Chaumont Arena, 2012 to 2014 ($7 M) – 4,884 sq. m.;
  • Roberto Luongo Arena, 2012 to 2014 ($6.5 M) – sq. m.;
  • Ahuntsic Arena, 2012 to 2014 ($7.7 M) – 3,625 sq. m.;
  • Martin-Brodeur Arena, 2012 to 2014 ($12 M) – 4,689 sq. m.;
  • Michel-Normandin Arena, 2010 to 2013 ($4.2 M) – 3,870 sq. m.;
  • Henri-Bourassa Arena, 2010 to 2012 ($2.6 M) – 3,371 sq. m.;
  • Howie-Morenz Arena, 2010 to 2012 ($4.5 M) – 3,776 sq. m.;
  • Jacques-Lemaire Arena, 2010 to 2012 ($3.6 M) – 6,883 sq. m.;
  • Maurice-Richard Arena ($9.5 M);
  • Père-Marquette Arena ($9 M);
  • Pierre « Pete » Morin Arena ($9 M).

Works on most arenas included:

  • Replacement of refrigeration system, from Freon to ammoniac;
  • Addition of ventilation and dehumidifier systems;
  • Several works for energy savings;
  • Several upgrading works;
  • Works to meet LEED Silver certification requirements;
  • Measures specific to each borough needs.
