The City of Montreal has implemented a program to either renovate and expand its public library, or build better adapted new ones, thus contributing to the cultural, educational, social and community life in Montreal. It is listed in the Montreal’s 2008 – 2011 Cultural Development Agreement, supporting boroughs initiatives in offering a greater access to the public libraries. More specifically, the program:

  • Supports effort for renovation, expansion and construction of libraries
  • Maintains and develops an adequate network of infrastructures on Montreal’s territory
  • Improves basic services offered by public libraries
  • Facilitates access to libraries for all citizens, by offering quality installations, activities and services
  • Innovates and uses creativity in compliance with the industry’s best practices.

With over $170 M of investments, the program includes, amongst others, libraries in the following boroughs: Pierrefonds, L’Octogone, Maisonneuve, Villeray, Riviere-des-Prairies – Pointe-aux-Trembles mixed project, Saint-Leonard mixed project, and Saint-Charles.
