Renovation of the inside dome, Saint-Joseph Oratory of Mount-Royal

Renovation of the inside dome, Saint-Joseph Oratory of Mount-Royal

  • Quantity Surveying

This renovation is undertaken to improve and develop tourists’ experience during their visit at the Oratory, one of the most visited sites in Montreal, with a renewed and improved itinerary. The project includes an upgrading of the exhibition hall and reserves, the creation of a new interpretation and multimedia animation space in the inter-dome, and a facilitated access to the existing observatory – the lantern – located at the tip of the dome. All this, to create a new visit circuit focussing on architectural, heritage and cultural discovery, independent of the one leading to the basilica itself.

At its maximum, the height between inside and outside domes is 40 metres. The fit-up of the inter-dome implies the creation of a circular two-level space: a ring large enough to allow the circulation of several tourists. The outside wall is made of leaded window panes and windows, with a 360° view on Montreal. The fit-up of this site will create a large circular no-ceiling exhibition room, to host several events.
