The project Les Bassins du Nouveau Havre consists of the redevelopment of the former Canada Post distribution centre in Montreal’s  borough Le Sud-Ouest in order to build 1,600 residential units. This innovative sustainable development project is noteworthy because of aspects such as the integration of green spaces, active transportation, rainwater management and social and affordable housing. The project is seeking LEED ND certification, meeting the highest standards in sustainable construction and design, for both buildings and the neighbourhood. CLC has hired Macogep as experts in infrastructure projects, estimation and constructability analysis. This is a considerable challenge, as it requires close coordination among all parties involved, and there are many. Certain constraints imposed by Parks Canada, which owns the canal, shoreline and bike path, must be followed in carrying out the work. Macogep must also facilitate procedures with Quebec’s Ministry of sustainable development, environment, wildlife and parks (MDDEP), which must approve infrastructures and authorize any work on waterways. Macogep’s involvement helps to mitigate difficulties that can cause delays and additional costs, and to control costs in the pre-construction phase.
