Upgrading of Ahuntsic arena – Montréal

Municipal arenas upgrading support programs

  • Project management

The City of Montréal owns a network of 40 indoor skating rinks, in 34 arenas or sports complexes. Pursuant to the Montréal Protocol, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and Quebec’s Air and Environment Quality Act, the City of Montréal must replace all Freon refrigeration systems (HCFC-22) by 2020. The City hires Macogep to bring the Ahuntsic arena up to standard. There are several challenges awaiting the firm: all stakeholders and their respective budgets must be managed; the impact of work on the arena’s users and activities must be minimized; and the constraints of the City’s arena upgrading program must be followed, not to mention the LEED Silver certification criteria. Macogep met the challenge, since the project is carried out on schedule and within budget, and the arena, open since August 2013, is in the process of its LEED Silver certification.
